The Commemoration of the 30 years Anniversary of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsis in Rwanda!

We are delighted to invite you to the Commemoration of the 30 years Anniversary of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsis in Rwanda which will take place on Saturday 8th June at the Higgins Bedford, Castle Ln, Bedford MK40 3XD.

As we continue to remember the Holocaust yearly, we also remember other subsequent Genocides. We need remember over one million Tutsis who were murdered in one hundred day. The Rwandan Community in Bedford, Higgins Bedford and Queen’s Park community organisation have joined forces to organise the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Genocide Against the Tutsis in Rwanda. Bedford resident and Survivor, Chantal Uwamahoro, who might have heard recently on BBC radio 4, has dedicated her life to tell her story by giving lectures, talk and assemblies in schools and many public places. This event is the opportunity to come and meet survivors and the community and listen to their stories.

It is very important for these stories to be told and Kwibuka (means ‘to remember’ in Kinyarwanda) calls on the world to stand against genocide in three Key ways:

To remember-Honouring the memory of those who died. Offering support to those who survived.

To Unite: Rwanda shows that reconciliation through shared human values is possible. We ask the world to do the same.

To renew: As we build Rwanda anew, we are humbled to share our experiences and learn from others.
