Over the summer, we had the pleasure of partnering with the Bedford Caribbean Seniors Citizens Association to deliver a pair of vibrant, hands-on Slow Cooking Sessions focused on healthier, budget-friendly home cooking.
These sessions were part of our ongoing work to promote energy-efficient, affordable cooking methods across the Bedford community and the results were nothing short of inspiring!
In our first session, we introduced participants to the basics of slow cooking, sharing practical tips on how to save money, reduce energy use, and make the most of their slow cookers.
Attendees enjoyed a delicious tasting session featuring home-style slow cooker dishes, including a memorable slow-cooked banana cake, which quickly became a favourite!

We returned on September 4th for a special Bring & Share Slow Cooking Session and this time, the community took the lead!
Participants brought in their own home-cooked slow cooker meals to share with others, proudly serving dishes like:
The room was filled with delicious aromas, stories, and laughter. A true celebration of community, culture, and cooking on a budget. Many even brought their slow cookers along, serving dishes straight from the pot!
This project was proudly funded by Cadent and managed by the Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation, whose continued support helps make sessions like these possible.
Weβre incredibly grateful to all the participants for their enthusiasm, and to the Bedford Caribbean Seniors Citizens Association for welcoming us so warmly.
Together, weβre showing that healthy, affordable meals can also be joyful, communal, and deeply nourishing in every sense of the word.
