St Patrick Day-Sunday 16th March 2025-12 to 5pm

St Patrick’s Day in Bedford – What a Celebration!

Harpur Square came alive on Sunday, the 16th of March, as we proudly hosted a vibrant and unforgettable St Patrick’s Day celebration alongside the Irish community here in Bedford.

From the joyful music and energetic dancing to the delicious Irish food and community spirit, the day was full of fun, laughter, and connection. Hundreds gathered to enjoy live performances, cultural showcases, and great company — with no age restrictions and free entry, this truly was a day for all.

The event was officially opened by Bavesh Shah, High Sheriff of Bedfordshire, Tom Wootton, Mayor of Bedford Borough, and Nicholas Kier BEM DL from the Bedfordshire Lieutenancy.

A huge thank you to our amazing performers who brought the heart of Ireland to the stage:

  • The Castle Session Band
  • Chris Law Music
  • The Barrys
  • The Black and Gold
  • Out of the Hat
  • The Also-rans

A special round of applause to the Stuart Irish Dance Bedford troupe, whose talent and enthusiasm shone through, even as the afternoon turned chilly.

The Kings Arms – Bedford served up traditional Irish dishes, including Irish stew and bacon and cabbage, while Flightcase Bars kept spirits high with Guinness and a selection of drinks throughout the day.

We are incredibly grateful to Bedford Borough Council, The Harpur Trust, and all our fantastic volunteers – especially our brilliant MC Samantha Hughes – who made the event run so smoothly.

A Word from Mayor Tom Wootton:

“It was fantastic to see so many people come together to celebrate St Patrick’s Day in the heart of Bedford. The atmosphere, the performances, and the community spirit were second to none. Special thanks to the young dancers who stole the show – and to Queen’s Park Community Organisation for leading such a brilliant event. The bar has been set – I’m already looking forward to next year!”

Go raibh maith agat – thank you to everyone who made this day so special. Until next year… Sláinte!
