As we continue to remember the Holocaust yearly, we also remember other subsequent Genocides. We need remember over one million Tutsis who were murdered in one hundred day. The Rwandan Community in Bedford, Higgins Bedford and Queen’s Park community organisation have joined forces to organise the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Genocide Against the Tutsis in Rwanda. Bedford resident and Survivor, Chantal Uwamahoro, who might have heard recently on BBC radio 4, has dedicated her life to tell her story by giving lectures, talk and assemblies in schools and many public places. This event is the opportunity to come and meet survivors and the community and listen to their stories

OPEN Day- King’s Oak Primary

The feedback we have had from the deaf and hard of hearing community in Bedford is that not many businesses are able to communicate via BSL in Bedford town centreand we wanted to change that trend. Our aim is to enable as many people as possible to gain some knowledge of British Sign Language to help support the Deaf and hard of hearing community, and ensure they feel more welcome/comfortable using our town centre shops and services. To do this we will also be organising a deaf awareness day on the Sunday 12th May between 2 to 4pm at the Harpur suite in Bedford Town centre. More
information to follow.

Bedford’s BSL Festival

The course is open to everyone; you might be an employee of a business in town or a business owner, you could be working for a charity or a statutory body, working for Bedfordshire Police or you just want to learn BSL to help people to feel more included, as long as you interact with Bedford town, this is the course for you!

We ask that you only book if you can commit to all six weeks of classes, in order to get the most from this opportunity.  Spaces are limited and will be filled on first come first serve basis. Please find attached the flyers. Please note that you can park for free at the Allhallows car park, Brace St, Bedford MK40 1LX. It is only a short walking distance to both the venues.

✨A huge thank you to the talented @abeerahman for gifting us this beautiful embroidery! It is such a wonderful reminder of what our community hub is all about: bringing people together, sharing skills, and creating a space where everyone feels at home.✨

We are so grateful to have Abeer as part of our group! 🧵❤️

This is what she said:
"I was one of the very first people to attend the Welcoming Space programme by QPCO. It was also one of the first community programmes I joined after moving to Bedford when my daughter was just 3 years old and my son was only 9 months old.

From the very beginning, the space felt warm, welcoming, and like a home away from home. The volunteers are always kind, respectful, and genuinely caring, making everyone feel included and valued.

The variety of activities on offer is truly wonderful. From young children to older adults, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Whether it's arts and crafts, brain games, or other engaging activities, each session supports wellbeing, encourages creativity, and brings people together. I have enjoyed it so much that I often wish the sessions were held twice a week!

Having attended regularly over the years, I have seen first-hand the positive difference this programme makes to individuals and to the wider community. I would wholeheartedly recommend everyone to come along and experience the benefits of this welcoming space.

Thank you, QPCO, for creating such a generous, inclusive, and supportive environment. As a small token of my appreciation, I created a stitched version of the QPCO logo as a gift. It is the least I could do to express my gratitude for everything this wonderful programme has given me and so many others."
