On Friday 12th December 2025, we had a welcoming and inclusive day of learning and connection with the community at Access Bedford, coming together for a specially adapted Slow Cooking Session delivered in British Sign Language (BSL).
This session was designed to support disabled people, predominantly blind participants, ensuring everyone could take part confidently and comfortably. Using accessible communication, hands-on guidance, and clear demonstrations, the session explored how slow cooking can be a practical, affordable, and empowering way to prepare healthy meals at home.
Participants discovered simple, budget-friendly recipes, learned practical ways to stretch ingredients, and shared their own experiences in a supportive and inclusive environment. The atmosphere throughout the session reflected strong community spirit, collaboration, and mutual encouragement.
To help participants continue cooking independently at home, each household received a free slow cooker and an ingredients pack, allowing them to put their new skills into practice straight away.
We extend our sincere thanks to Access Bedford for hosting and supporting this accessible session, and to our funders Cadent and the Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation for helping make this inclusive experience possible.
